Welcome

Thank you for choosing to use eleFront! Whether you're a complete beginner looking to develop a basic foundation, an experienced user looking for a deeper understanding, or a one-off user looking for some tips so you can perform a specific task , this primer will provide you with the information you need.

eleFront is a Grasshopper plugin that extends Rhino's capabilities for managing geometry, attributes, and data workflows. It provides a comprehensive set of tools for working with geometry, attributes, blocks, annotations, and file management within Grasshopper. The tools are designed to help organize and maintain complex Grasshopper definitions.

Key Features

  • Reference: Import geometry and data from Rhino sessions, active files, or external sources
  • Filter & Sort: Select and organize data with precision
  • Attributes: Attach metadata to geometry for organization and querying
  • Bake: Export geometry with attributes to Rhino files or external formats
  • Blocks: Define, insert, and manage blocks directly in Grasshopper
  • Annotations: Create dimensions, leaders, text, and hatches
  • Files: Export, merge, and modify external files

Installation

eleFront is free for download. We recommend installing eleFront from the Package Manager. To do so, open Rhino, and enter the command PackageManager, then search for eleFront.

You will also see eleFront-Rhino-6-Legacy. If you are a legacy user, and you have scripts that use the old eleFront, we recommend installing this Legacy version as well, to have the two versions side-by-side. You may also want to review some notes about important differences between the two versions, here: Notes for Existing Users

Development

eleFront is developed by VIA - an international and multidisciplinary design consulting group specializing in the design and execution of innovative building facades.

We develop eleFront primarily to deliver the complex and challenging construction projects with which we're engaged. We've made the plugin publicly available and free, in hopes to promote a data-centric way of producing 3D models. We hope you find it useful, and we are always interested in hearing about how people are using eleFront, alongside any questions, feature requests, or bugs.
